Although I feel like we JUST had Christmas, another holiday is fast approaching, and it's one of my favorites. Hearts, love, Cupid, kisses, girls, and chocolate candies. Yep, you guessed it! Valentine's Day! Last year, I set up a special date night for my mommy (check out the blog from one year ago!) I bought her a balloon and flowers (and I helped make dinner too.) I'm a pretty smooth guy, but this year is a little different. I'm going to share with you some of my favorite Valentine's Day outfits & accessories as well as some of my favorite homemade treats ahead of time so maybe you can be as smooth as me this year! I Got Style My go-to pant color: red. I love the pop of red! It's so simple to pair my red pants with sweaters or black & white tees, and you look super cool! For accessories, I like to go for an easy beanie (so I don't have to do my hair) or hat to match. I'm a Foodie I LOVE my treats. And when I get to bake them with my mommy, I LOVE them even more. Here are a few of our favorite (and easy) Valentine's treats. Oreo truffle balls These are to die for. Thanks to one of my mommy's best friends, this recipe will make your teacher, girlfriend, boyfriend, parents, or friend love you even more! Ingedients: -one pack of Oreos -8oz pack of cream cheese -one King size Hershey's bar (I think this works better than Hershey's chocolate chips) Directions: Crush oreos. Mix crushed oreos and cream cheese together in a large bowl until there are no longer chunks of cream cheese. (You may have to use your hands for this.) Roll into 2-3in balls and stick in the freezer. While freezing, melt the chocolate. I like to use a mason jar. Stick the chocolate into the mason jar and melt in the microwave, stirring every 15 seconds. (I know it's tedious but it's necessary). Once melted, drizzle (or cover) the oreo balls and stick them back in the freezer until ready to eat. Voila! Easy and Yummy! (Side note: we put some candy lips to decorate the tops Valentine style, but feel free to use your imagination here!) Chocolate Strawberry Love These are great for classmates, friends or your neighbor. They may look like they take a while, but these are super easy to make too! Ingredients: -Strawberries -two Hershey's King size chocolate bars -toothpicks Directions: Wash and cut the strawberries in half. Stick the toothpick through both halves to get a "heart" shape. Make sure the strawberries are really dry, otherwise the chocolate will not stick as well. Melt the chocolate and cover the strawberries. If you want to get super fancy, you can drizzle some red icing once the chocolate has hardened. Are you looking for somewhere different to take your little people on the weekend or during the week? Something where we can get dirty, ride rides, pet animals and you can have an adult beverage all at the same time? The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is going on until February 6, so head out there with the family for some real fun! Kids under 5 are free, and adults are just $10 each to get in. One tip- everything is "cash only," so unless you plan on throwing away $5 at their ATM, make sure to bring plenty of cash with you. Besides the rodeo show, you can't miss out on the pony rides and petting zoo. You can pet and feed the llamas, bulls, chickens, baby goats and much more! How cool is that? The rides and games were all very kid and family friendly (pretty much the same rides as last year!) I even went down the big slide all by myself this year (3 times in a row!). Oh- and don't forget to eat a corn dog while you're here- they are SO good and I devoured one all on my own. Last but not least, I would say to stop by the Rodeo Shopping area. From Cavender's to hot tubs, clothing and tractor supplies, this area has something for everyone in the family. And if not, it's just entertaining to walk around and check out everything they have to offer. Get your tickets or find out more information about dates/times here! We all know how difficult it can be to eat out and eat healthy at the same time. 9 times out of 10, my mom cooks at home because eating out can be so unhealthy. If we do get a chance to go out to eat, I usually end up ordering chicken fingers and french fries, but not this time! Last night I had dinner at El Fenix and the menu options are unreal! El Fenix now has the Kids Fit Menu and every item comes with a healthy (and delicious) side of fruit or vegetables. I decided to get the Rollie Pollie Quesadilla, which came with shredded chicken, diced yellow squash and cheese, with a side of "sweet nachos" (apple splices sprinkled with cinnamon, raisons and topped with whipped cream. mhmmmm!) All Kids Fit Menu items come with an apple juice too! SO GOOD! For the past five years, "kids teaching kids" has been engaging kids and families in better nutrition at home. Now, they have expanded their reach to include healthy options when dining out. Their Medical City Children’s Hospital registered dietitian is helping restaurants turn snack recipes from the kids teaching kids℠ website into Kids Fit meals, featuring fruits and vegetables. Thank you El Fenix for jumping on board in making my life healthier and happier! El Fenix has lots of locations around the DFW area. Ryder Styles Dallas and Ryder Styles Clothing, LLC are proud to support Kidd's Kids Foundation. With every "Be Brave" tee sold, 30% of proceeds go directly to the Kidd's Kids Foundation to support their annual trip to Disney World, where they send approximately 50 children who have a chronic or terminal illness, to an unforgettable adventure. Kidd's Kids Foundation was founded by the talented radio personality, Kidd Kraddick, of the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show. What started out as a small trip for 5 families to Sea World, is now a huge blessing for 50 families each year! My mommy grew up listening and supporting the show, as well as Kidd's Kids and is so happy to be able to help raise funds for the trip. For many families with terminally or chronically ill children, this is a very rare opportunity to leave behind hospital and treatment centers to share laughter and fun in a magical environment. Please help us in supporting this amazing cause, and giving these children a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Disney World, and have the time of their life!
